Gavin Larsen says, Muttiah Muralitharan is affordable as compared to other overseas players
The chief executive of Cricket Wellington, Gavin Larsen, has claimed that the province had not “paid above the odds” to secure the services of the former Sri Lankan legendary spin bowler, Muttiah Muralitharan.
Recently Murali has been assigned for the next season’s Twenty20 tournament. New Zealand’s domestic T20 contest will start from the end of December.
Larsen also suggested that the 39-year old player can also play in One-Day or Plunket Shield games if he is permitted by the Wellington Cricket Board.
While talking to Dominion Post, Larsen said, "He was very affordable and comparable to what the other key overseas players have received in New Zealand."
Larsen elaborated that the right-arm bowler is thinking to shift his family here.
"He's a really good bloke and he loves New Zealand. He'll bring his family out and he's really keen from a lifestyle point of view, and keen to contribute on and off the park," Larsen added.
On the other side, Jamie Siddons, whose coaching contract has come to an end with Bangladesh a few months, was interviewed by the Larsen for the next season 2010-2011, as coach of Wellington.
Anthony Stuart, the current Wellington coach will vacate the coaching seat in the end of this season. Siddons was also interviewed by the manager, Robbie Kerr, Mark Heisenbuttel Grant Elliott and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) director, John Buchanan.
Siddons, while talking to media said, "I'm definitely keen to talk to them again, there's a lot of things to chat about if they want me to do the job. We obviously need to agree on terms but I'm pretty comfortable, pretty keen to do the job.”
Siddons claimed that Murali’s inclusion will be of great assistance. He said that it is really good news that Murali has been secured for the Wellington competition.
Larsen also believed that Murali’s appointment would not create any issue ahead of the coach’s appointment
