Accidental check-up last week detected Yuvraj illness

New Delhi: It was an accidental medical check-up at a newly launched Gurgaon Sports Injury Clinic that detected the illness Yuvraj Singh was suffering from and which led to his missing out of next month's West Indies tour, according to the physician at the facility.

Dr PDS Kohli of the Sports Injury Clinic, which was inaugurated by Yuvraj last week, said the star batsman did not initially take his problem seriously and he was the one who convinced him that he should not take it lightly.
When he came to inaugurate Dr Kohli's clinic, Yuvraj complained of the problems in his lungs and he got tired easily.
"Then I told him we will have the test after the inauguration. After the results came in he took it lightly and said he wanted to continue playing," Kohli said.
Kohli said he told Yuvraj that he should take the illness seriously and would need two-three weeks rest to recover from it. He then wrote a letter to the BCCI informing about the medical status of Yuvraj, who was earlier named in the ODI squad for the West Indies tour.

"This is to inform you that Yuvraj Singh is under my medical care. Presently he is suffering from an upper respiratory infection, with a small patch of pneumonitis in the left lung," Kohli wrote in the letter to the BCCI secretary N Srinivasan.
"He is advised complete rest for about 2-3 weeks along with medical treatment," he said.
Acting on the medical report, the Cricket Board selection committee on Friday decided to leave out Yuvraj for the Test tour of West Indies next month while Manoj Tiwary has been named as his replacement for the T20 and ODI series.

The biggest positive has been the camaraderie we've enjoyed in the dressing room.

He is a great team man, easygoing, with positive vibes. And, if you thought I am naughty, you need to meet Wayne Parnell. Take your eyes off him and you will become a victim of his prank.
Such was the atmosphere in the team that the junior-most member in the side could laugh at seniors. Rahul Sharma never missed a chance to mimic my bowling action.

Yuvraj out of WI tour

India's middle order star Yuvraj Singh has ruled himself out of the West Indies tour as he is suffering from illness. Yuvraj, who was the Man of the Series in the recently concluded World Cup, has written to the BCCI informing the board about the latest blow. 

Gautham Gambhir, who was recently in the news for his injured shoulder, has also been ruled out of the entire Windies tour. 

Suresh Raina will lead the Indian team in the limited overs series beginning June 4 and he will be supported by Harbhajan Singh who has been named the vice-captain while Shikhar Dhawan and Manoj Tiwary have been included in the side to replace Gambhir and Yuvraj. 

India is already without seniors like MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan as they have been rested for the ODI series. 

Sachin Tendulkar, who was rested for the ODI series, has also requested to be left out for the Test squad as he wants to spend time with his family. 

The team for the Tests beginning June 20 at Kingston was also named with MS Dhoni returning to his role as skipper while VVS Laxman has been named his deputy. 

Virat Kohli, who has been consistent in the shorter formats, has also been rewarded with a Test cap, while Subramaniam Badrinath has been recalled after scoring heavily in the domestic season. The selectors have also included young left hand batsman Abhinav Mukund and wicket keeper Parthiv Patel, while Cheteshwar Pujara is yet to recover completely from the knee injury he sustained during the IPL. 

"Tendulkar requested that he be allowed to spend time with his family. He will therefore not play the Test series," Indian cricket board secretary N. Srinivasan said in a statement. 

"However, he will be available for the full tour of England that follows," he added. 

Speaking about Gambhir and Yuvraj, Srinivasan said: "Gambhir will be unavailable for the full tour of the West Indies on account of his shoulder injury." 

"Yuvraj will also be unavailable for the full tour. He is suffering from an upper respiratory infection, with a small patch of pneumonitis in the left lung," he mentioned.
